Beaulieu Overview

Beaulieu, ancestral home of the Montagu family since 1538, ranked highly among Britain's favourite attractions. Delightfully situated in the former grounds of the Abbey on the banks of the Beaulieu River, Palace House, the family seat, built around the former Abbey Gatehouse is a fine example of a Victorian country house.

At Palace House hear talks from costumed guides on aspects of life ’Upstairs and Downstairs’. During the summer there are Victorian games and playlets to enjoy. Beaulieu also features beautiful gardens including the fragrant Victorian Flower Garden, the informal Wilderness Garden, dating back to the 1770s, and the Victorian Kitchen Garden, laid out on the site of the original Palace House kitchen garden of the 1880s.

The Secret Army Exhibition tells the story of wartime Beaulieu and the training school established for the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during WWII, for agents sent to work with the Resistance in occupied Europe.

The Abbey Domus houses a fascinating exhibition about mediaeval monastic life at Beaulieu, exquisite embroidered wall hangings and an audio-visual presentation depicting the Abbey's history.

The world famous National Motor Museum in the grounds contains a priceless collection of over 250 historic vehicles. There are vehicles from every motoring era as well as Formula One and rally cars and motoring oddities such as a giant orange on wheels!

Visitors to World of Top Gear can see actual vehicles from some of the most ambitious challenges on the TV show over the years, whilst in the Top Gear ‘Enormodrome’ an exclusive video presentation shows behind-the-scenes at the Top Gear HQ.

There are also a host of entertaining opportunities for corporate clients as well as an extensive events programme throughout the year including Autojumbles, Supercar Showdown, plus the popular Fireworks Spectacular and much, much more! - see the Beaulieu website for further details.
